Do you feel that this process will never end?
Maybe, even a belief that you are grieving the wrong way?
What is Grief Therapy?
Whether you are grieving the loss of a pet, a loved one, a job, or a relationship, the process of grief is complex, and complicated. Grief is a common experience that occurs through loss. Unfortunately, grief is inevitable, but it does not make it easy or any more comfortable. For many of us, that loss can feel unbearable. You may resort to tendencies of avoidance, numbing, even distraction to cope with the pain and loss of grief. This can lead to feelings of stagnancy, anger, hurt, sadness and denial. Rest assured, this is all a normal response to grief. If you’re seeking grief support or require grief counselling, we’re here to help.
Learning your stage of grief and how to find closure aids in the healing process.
Why is Therapy Helpful?
There are a variety of triggers that may cause the desire to start loss and grief therapy. Some of the reasons may look like:
Seeking Closure
Needing to navigate the sadness
Feeling angry and overwhelmed
Adapting healthy coping responses
How We Can Help
Don’t worry, all of our grief counselling practitioners operate on a holistic perspective of therapy. Meaning, we will work with you in understanding how to adapt healthy responses to grief, and learn to release. The modalities effective for grief support are a combination of cognitive behavioral therapy and narrative therapy.
We work on understanding your process of grief, your present coping strategies, and supporting you in the tools to build a healthier grieving process. Healing is not linear, and normalizing your process, talking through your experience are all some key ways to release the pain.
During our grief counselling work together we will begin with an intake session in person in Calgary or virtually. At this first session, we’ll discuss why you chose to seek therapy and your personal goals. We offer grief counselling in Calgary and online grief therapy as well.
The process of loss and grief therapy holds a lot of uncertainty, and we are here to support you in every step of the way.
